Programme background

The Post Graduate Diploma in Garment Business is delivered by the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka, under the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP).

SICIP is a national workforce development programme of the Government of Bangladesh, jointly financed with the Asian Development Bank at a total cost of USD 375 million. The Finance Division, Ministry of Finance is the executing agency, and the Skills Development Coordination and Monitoring Unit implements it. The programme runs from 2023 to 2029 and targets around 220,000 trainees nationwide.

Within SICIP, PGD-GB addresses managerial capability. It equips mid-level professionals in the ready-made garment sector with the strategic, commercial and analytical skills the industry needs to stay competitive.

A curriculum built for the industry

The curriculum moves from foundation to application. Module 1 builds the academic base. Module 2 pairs business strategy with 40 industry module topics drawn from live RMG practice. Module 3 applies that learning through managerial communication, business analytics and a supervised industry attachment. Thirty credits in total, taught to IBA’s standard of academic rigour.

Taught by IBA faculty and industry leaders

The programme draws on the faculty of the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka, the country’s foremost business school since 1966. IBA academics teach alongside senior practitioners from the ready-made garment industry, so each topic is delivered by someone who has both studied it and led it in the field.
